Chronic non-malignant pain (CNMP), has been defined as pain that persists for at least three months. CNMP is a highly prevalent condition, with an increased prevalence observed in elderly populations. This increased burden of CNMP among the elderly has been attributed to the development and progression of chronic degenerative conditions associated with the aging process. CNMP may be particularly debilitating for elderly patients, as, in addition to the physical and psychosocial features of the condition, it may also reduce mobility, produce gait disturbances, cognitive decline and result in accidents.
